Social media is going to be banned for teenagers under 18 in Texas.

The Texas state government is on track to impose a complete ban on social media use for individuals under 18. If passed, this bill would mark the strictest state-level social media regulation in U.S. history.

According to the bill, anyone under 18 would be prohibited from creating or using new social media accounts. Platforms would be required to verify users' ages and delete minors' accounts within 10 days if requested by a parent.

Violating the law would be considered a “deceptive trade practice,” allowing for legal action against the platforms.

The bill has already passed the Texas House of Representatives and is likely to pass the Senate soon. Governor Greg Abbott has emphasized the importance of teen safety and online privacy.

Previously, Florida passed a similar law banning social media use for children under 14.
